What’s it like living in Boulder, CO?
Adventure has always been a huge part of my life, but ever since moving to Boulder, it is my life. I have the Rocky Mountains right in my back yard and get to spend all of my free time camping, climbing, and backpacking. It also seems that Boulder is a city of creatives. I have met countless photographers, filmmakers, and artists that I have networked with and gone on adventures with. Everyone here is just so friendly and open for new experiences.
What gets you out of bed every morning?
As a freelancer and a young creative, the drive to be successful is what gets me out of bed each day. My day starts around 6:00am and consists of shooting, editing, and making new connections as I grow my personal brand. I graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship so I could have taken the easy route and gotten a job in the corporate world. But what fun is the easy route? Instead I chose to pursue my passion for photography and filmmaking and I can't think of a better place to do that than Boulder.
When did you pick up photography?
My life has been a constant adventure since the day I was born. I was lucky to be able to travel a lot as I grew up which sparked my desire to see the world. From rugged northern canoeing trips, to Caribbean vacations, to half-year excursions down under, I began to see the world from many new perspectives. By embracing the cultures from these places, I have learned a lot about myself, as well as the world around me and I chose to pick up photography in order to share these new perspectives. I've pretty much always had a camera in my hands. I started on little point and shoots, then moved on to action cameras which is what got me into filmmaking, and now I shoot on professional mirrorless cameras. It's quite interesting to see how much my skills have changed over the years and I'm grateful for everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.
Where’s your favorite place to adventure to and why?
In 2017 I spent 6 months in New Zealand. I have never been in a country that is so backpacker friendly. I covered the entire expanse of the north and south islands, hitting every great trail in between, and meeting some incredible lifelong friends. I have never witnessed such majestic landscapes. The landscape is so diverse that you can go skiing in the morning, hike through jungle during the day, and then go surfing at sunset. I really learned a lot about myself in those 6 months, frequently backpacking solo, and it was there that I decided I wanted to pursue my passion for photography as a career.
What’s next for you?
At the moment I am freelancing. Business is great and I'm making tons of amazing connections. However, I am planning on starting up a boutique production company in order to help passionate people share their stories with the world.
