Senior Graphic Designer
LOCATION: Boulder, CO
REPORTS TO: Brand Marketing Director
START DATE: May-June 2021
Matador is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed Graphic Designer with 4+ years of experience who is excited about joining a tight-knit team of talented, hard-working individuals in our Boulder, CO headquarters. The Graphic Designer will play both leading and supporting roles in developing new products from initial concept to finished product. Strong technical proficiency and a collaborative mindset are requirements for this role. Candidates should have interest and experience in traditional graphic design, photography and photo editing, packaging design, web design, and project management.
Hiring Timeline: For immediate hire
The Sr. Graphic Designer will report directly to the Brand Marketing Director. This position carries a wide array of responsibilities, requires a variety of skills, and is involved in many different aspects of the company. Some of the responsibilities of this position are outlined below:
Traditional graphic design:
Graphic layout for packaging, web, catalogs, etc. Logo development for sub-brands and wordmarks. Digital product illustration, pattern and color creation/selection, etc.
Photography and videography:
Art direction for studio and lifestyle photography and videography, photo editing, color grading, minor in-video animation. Generation of creative and engaging content concepts. Production/management of shoots performed by third party contractors and in-house content creator.
Managing Shopify website updates and product page build-outs. A working knowledge of HTML and CSS is strongly preferred and Java Script is a bonus. Experience working in Shopify is strongly preferred, especially experience with Liquid.
Additional random tasks and assignments:
Tradeshow booth graphics, retail fixture graphics, graphic layout of sales sheets (price sheets, order forms, sales pitch documents, etc.), on-product graphics, and a number of random tasks that may arise from time to time.
Applicants must have the ability to generate new concepts from scratch, but also be able to adhere to brand guidelines and work within the VBL (visual brand language) of the company. Applicants must have a collaborative mindset and the ability to make improvements to their work based on constructive criticism and feedback.
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Graphic Design, Graphic Communications, or a similar field of study. Applicants must have a strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Applicants should have a strong understanding of photography and videography so they can provide art direction and feedback to in-house content creator and external contractors. Applicant should have a good understanding of web design including experience with HTML, CSS and Java. Experience working within Shopify and using Liquid is strongly preferred.
A portfolio of the applicant’s recent work is required for this position. Applications submitted without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
