The Beast18 features an innovative spring steel frame, which allows for both structure and packability. The flexible frame suspension provides comfort and torsion with movement, for an agile fit that moves with you and distributes loads evenly. When not in use, simply twist and fold the frame, and secure into the compression sack. The spring steel frame bounces back into its original shape when released.

one of my favorite bags

This was the first product i'd ever purchased from matador a few years back. Whether it's a day hike or as a go back during travel, this is the bag i'll grab on my way out. It's been through every condition you can think over the past 4 years and shows no signs of giving up. I liked this bag so much I've bough countless more gear from matador over the years. You can consider me a lifelong customer.

Great daypack for travel and everyday

I had the original Beast backpack that was a little bulky for travel compared to other travel packs. However, the competition doesn't have the technical pack features of the Beast. The Beast 18 is a comfortable pack to carry without the weight of similar technical packs but with all the features. At the same time the pack travels well waiting for micro adventure or the summit bag. I especially like the side pockets will take a nalgene water bottle.

Fantastic daypack

This thing is just about perfect for me. I was looking for a packable backpack that can double as a personal item on a plane and a hiking daypack. This fits both scenarios well.

It’s extremely lightweight and durable. The materials are high quality and the frame sits comfortably. The water bottle pockets aren’t huge but easily fit a normal water bottle. The hydration sleeve fits my 13” MacBook Air with just a bit to spare. A protective laptop sleeve wouldn’t fit, at least without distorting the shape of the pack, so keep that in mind.

There is nothing I don’t need here. One big main area and one smaller zippered area that’s still big enough to fit larger items like a 1L bottle or tablet.
